A homogeneous segment includes consistent design characteristics (i.e., cross section) and uniform traffic volumes. Segments are generally considered to be the roadway between intersections and are homogeneous throughout the segment otherwise, the distance would be subdivided. Traffic volumes and physical characteristics generally remain the same over the length of a segment, although small variations may occur (e.g., changes in traffic volumes on a segment resulting from a low-volume driveway). SegmentsĪ segment is the length of roadway between two points with similar geometric, operational, and vehicular characteristics. Points (more commonly called intersections) can be subdivided as the following:ĭepending on the variables included in an agency’s database, a crash may be coded as being “intersection related” or “not intersection related.” Such a variable could help determine if the crash should be associated with the characteristics of an intersection or of a segment. Points are places along a facility where (1) conflicting traffic streams cross, merge, or diverge (2) a single traffic stream is regulated by a traffic control device or (3) there is a significant change in the segment capacity (e.g., lane drop, lane addition). The following sections provide additional descriptions. In general, a network element is typically one of the following:įigure 4 shows examples of the network elements. The network element scale may start with the smallest increment, typically an intersection or a marked crosswalk (point), and then be grouped into larger scales to form a facility or an area. For example, an advertising campaign regarding driving under the influence may want to target the entire community if the message is being distributed by radio or target select intersections if the message is being distributed using a print medium. The scale and type may be related to the anticipated treatment. The scale of the network being studied along with the type of site(s) for a safety assessment can vary. After the performance measure is selected, the type of screening method needs to be identified.įigure 3. The preference is to select a performance measure that does not have a known bias or that can minimize known biases. This decision could affect how the crash and roadway data are gathered and processed along with the type of performance measure(s) used to identify sites. The planning of the assessment includes the following three substeps as shown in figure 3:Īn initial step is to determine the type of the network elements being studied or the scale of the network. For communities with Vision Zero programs, identifying sites for treatment is critical to achieve the goal of eliminating fatal crashes. A motivation for the analysis could be to identify problems that the community wants to address, for example, improving safety for older or younger pedestrians. Time spent planning can yield more useful results. Just as a skilled carpenter measures twice and cuts once, a safety analyst should plan ahead and make key analysis decisions in order to get the most out of the available data. My suggestions for future updates, first, make the buttons configurable so that custom keys can be used for the function, (Actually use alt tab as the key combo for instance) and update the simulate human click function, as it gets annoying that the mouse cannot be moved while the simulated human click function is clicking. (At least in Linux this is the case) because the auto clicker keeps clicking (And as such closes the alt tab window if it shows up) making getting focus back to the app nearly impossible, unless you have some extreme reflexes. that's wrong, actually it's getting focus back to the app, alt tab doesn't stop the auto clicker at all but that's not really the issue that I found, I noticed that if you have the auto clicker faster then you can get focus back to the app (Especially if you have a predetermined location for your cursor) then the only way to stop the app from what it's doing is to reboot/shut down your PC. There is only one issue I've found with it, (And it's not a big issue, but if you don't know about it can be annoying) This issue is that the app says that the key combo for shutting the app off, so that you don't auto click anymore. This creation enabled designers to replicate hundreds of visual printed copies with a fraction of the original effort.Īlthough this technology was primarily used for artists and illustrators, the ability to quickly replicate images in color was eagerly incorporated into the newfound world of Victorian product marketing. One such world-changing invention was that of the color lithograph. The Victorian Era was a time of new inventions, products and processes. Two fonts, forty vector ornaments and twenty hand-drawn Victorian floral designs.Specifically, those that discarded the more traditional approaches to graphic design.ĭespite its incredible popularity in the 1800s, this style of typeface is still a timeless classic that appeals to both classic and contemporary projects. Unlike the Edwardians, who reveled in tradition and aesthetic restraint, the Victorians adored reinvented fonts. They combined the classic styles of Bodoni and Dido to create a statement of a font we know as Fat Face. Mammoth Fat Face is inspired by the rule-breakers of the Victorian Era who went against tradition. Upper and lowercase glyphs, numbers, and 32 symbols. This in addition to generously layered, textured and encased visual elements all became the norm of this period. Color-printing technologies were also being fine-tuned and mass-produced.Īs a result, Victorian typography became more bold, more colorful, and more stylized. Printed advertisements in newspapers and magazines were introduced for emerging brands to establish themselves to consumers as well as to compete with each other. Eventually “product catalogs” (our magazines’ ancestors) were introduced to help Victorians choose what they could buy. New products started to fill the pages of England’s newspapers. Some inventions, such as printed media, graphic design and even modern advertising techniques were all developed during this time of rapid economic change. But it does capture the juxtaposed beauty of simplicity against technology. Helsing may stand in direct contrast to the big, bold and brightly colored typefaces of the post-industrial Victorian Era. Top Victorian LetteringĪlthough the dominating style of the era was automated and ornamental, there was still an appreciation for hand-crafted, time-consuming workmanship. But became more bold, bright and decorative in order to stand out from the crowd. Victorian signage and typography such as Old Aflie followed the grace and delicacy of previous typeface-styles. Top Victorian TypographyĪs more and more products filled the pages, product designers became increasingly creative when designing posters, logos, and product labels. Mammoth Fat Face font pays tribute to those original typesetters who (quite literally) broke the mold to give the world the most popular font of the 19th Century. But made them darker, bolder and more visually commanding. This typeface family was developed by merging two traditional fonts, Dido and Bodoni. One of the most popular and commercially successful fonts to come out of the 19th-Century was the Fat Face font. And bring a sentimental nostalgia to any creative project. These enriching typefaces still evoke the excitement of a time when luxury items were finally accessible to non-nobles. The use of decadent color-layering, borders, decorative finishes and flowing letters became the dominating period style. As product competition in post-industrial England skyrocketed, so did the public’s demand for bold, bright and eye-catching typography. More whimsical than the sleek and simple Art Deco style fonts, but with less adrenaline than Wild Western fonts of the same Century, Victorian fonts are recognizable by their ornamentation and lavishly intricate decoration. Many of these revolutionized the way people thought about production, marketing and even graphic design. It introduced thousands of never before seen inventions and technologies. This period of history is strongly associated with the technological benefits of Britain’s Industrial Revolution. England’s Victorian-era spanned from the coronation of Queen Victoria in 1837, until her death in 1901. We do not advise setting the priority to High or Realtime, as you still need to leave processing power for other tasks aside from your stream – most importantly, to the game you’re streaming.īut it is possible that your PC will attribute a lower priority to OBS than to a game, and if the game is not that demanding, you might want to change this, too, by changing the priority of the corresponding game process to Below normal. Right-click on it and set the priority to Above normal. This will transfer you to the relevant process in the Processes tab. To set process priorities, go to the task manager, as shown earlier, find OBS among the tasks, right-click on it and hit Go to Process. As a result, the program will lack the processing power to perform the encoding, and an overload will ensue. This means that CPU resources will be channeled first to other processes, leaving OBS with only the crumbs. Like foobar2000, it has the feature of WAV conversion of all supported formats. The player does not support plugins and the only customization is the muting of channels. It was originally written for Macintosh, but later ported to Windows and Linux. Audio Converter is an add-on that help you easily convert an audio format to another. When distributing power among processes, the CPU is guided by the principle of priorities. Restart your computer and launch your stream to see if the warning disappears. Increase the Buffer Size Ideally to a value by the power of 2, e.g. Ideally, you should pick the correct setting before starting a new project, rather than changing it while working on an existing one. Lower this parameter from 1920 × 1080 to 1280 × 720, for example, and see how that works. Try setting it to a value of 44100 or 48000 Hz. To do this, click on Settings on the bottom-right side of the screen, then go to the Video tab and click Output (scaled) Resolution. At the same time, your layout stays the same, as you do not change the Base (Canvas) Resolution. Consider turning down video settings.īy scaling the resolution down, you’re telling OBS to shrink the video before sending it to the encoder, thus putting less pressure on your CPU. Your original content will probably be at 1080p resolution, so, naturally, you’ll want all this quality in the output the question is – can your CPU handle it? If you see the message “Encoding overloaded” in OBS, your CPU is probably choking on the encoding. Since OBS records your screen in real time, CPU usage rises significantly with the number of pixels your processor has to handle for each frame. Open sourced under GPL.The resolution is a key factor that determines CPU usage. This plugin is designed to work with version 1.0 of my generic WebAudio ScriptProcessor music player. There’s the ancient question of whether text editors or IDEs (e.g., the JetBrains suite or Eclipse) are better for everyday coding activities. Here are tutorials for how to set up Emacs for three different languages: Read this to understand how that mechanism works. In general, Emacs has the same package installation mechanism for all packages. You can install plugins for different language support easily with Emacs (more on language support in the next section). Installing plugins and setting up language modes No more googling how to get out of Vim when running git rebase. Save the file, exit the editor, and then restart your terminal. In my experience, Emacs resembles editors like Microsoft Word and Google Docs more than Vim because of its modelessness, and this fact may make it easier to get used to than Vim.Īs noted in the Wikipedia editor war article, the "non-modal nature of Emacs keybindings makes it practical to OS-wide keybindings." This sentiment summaries the biggest reason that I choose Emacs over Vim. Because Emacs is modeless, its keyboard commands often start with the Ctrl key or the Meta key (which can be Esc or Opt if configured in your macOS terminal preferences), so that the system can distinguish actual edits from commands. One of the most notable differences between is two editors is that, unlike Emacs, Vim has two modes: Insert mode (where you can edit the file and cannot enter commands) and Command mode (where you can only enter commands and the file is read-only). There’s a dedicated Wikipedia page with a summary of the differences and pros vs. cons to help you decide what side of the editor war between Vim and Emacs you’re on. If you are new to text editing, you may wonder if you should go with Emacs or Vim, since remembering all of the commands for either can involve a significant investment of muscle memory. If you want to know why you should learn Emacs and how to get started, please keep reading. As a (less popular) cousin of Vim, Emacs also offers powerful capabilities with easy-to-install language support, and can even help you navigate faster in macOS with the same keybindings. Each of these men have one characteristic that is shared, which is that they all fought against death for as long as they could. The presence of these oxymorons creates a sense of conflict in the reader, a feeling that is often felt by those who are struggling to say goodbye to a loved one.Īt the beginning of the middle four stanzas they each begin with a description of a man, “Wise men… Good men…Wild men… Grave men…” (Thomas 4 7 10 13). “Good night” is an acknowledgement of the bittersweet relief of the struggles and hardships of life that come with death, while “fierce tears” and the repeated line “Rage, rage against the dying of the light” show that the speaker sees the act of dying as a much more passionate, sad, and angering experience. This line is especially significant as it distinguishes the author’s beliefs about death versus dying, which are vastly different. These tears would be a curse because it is difficult to watch a loved one cry, but a blessing because the tears are a sign that the father is unwilling to surrender to death. By referring to passionate tears as a blessing and a curse, which insinuates that the speaker does not necessarily believe death itself is inherently wrong, but to remain complicit in the face of death would be. Thomas presents yet another oxymoron by saying “Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears” (Thomas 17). The use of the word “good” initially seems odd, however, although it may seem like the speaker rejects the idea of death itself, this is not entirely the case. Presumably the speaker does not, given their desperation for their father to avoid it. In this poem “night” is synonymous with “death” thus, the phrase “good night” can also be considered an oxymoron if one does not consider death good. “Blinding sight” is an oxymoron, which implies that although with age most men lose their sight, they are wiser and enlightened, and have a greater understanding of the world. In the fifth stanza, Thomas describes men near death “who see with blinding sight” (Thomas 13). The line “my father, there on the sad height” (Thomas 16) confirms that this poem is directed to the speaker’s father, the idea presented in these lines is what Thomas wants his father to recognize above all else. This structural choice is a result of the villanelle form, but we can interpret it to highlight the predictability of life itself, and signifies the undeniable and unavoidable fact that everyone must face death at the end of one’s life. “Dying of the light” and “good night” are direct metaphors for death, and with the exception of the first line of the poem, they only appear at the end of a stanza. These lines add even more significance due to their placement in the poem. The first line showcases a bit of alliteration of n sounds at the beginning of “not” and “night,” as well as alliteration of hard g sounds in the words “go” and “good.” These lines are vital to the poem as they reiterate its central meaning, making it far from subtle and extremely hard to miss. This repetition gives the reader a sense of panic and desperation as the speaker pleads with their father to stay. As a result of the poem’s villanelle structure, both lines “Do not go gentle into that good night” and “Rage, rage against the dying of the light” (Thomas) are repeated often. The first thing that one may notice while reading Thomas’s piece is that there are key phrases repeated throughout the poem. The poem “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night” depicts the grief and panic one feels when a loved is approaching the end of their life, while presenting a question is it right to surrender to death, or should it be resisted? In this poem Dylan Thomas opposes the idea of a peaceful passing, and uses various literary devices such as repetition, metaphor, and imagery to argue that death should be resisted at all costs. Model Text: “To Suffer or Surrender? An Analysis of Dylan Thomas’s ‘Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night’” To Suffer or Surrender? At 79 minutes at least it doesn’t drag until the final shootout. Most of it is very bad but some parts are fun. The poster art proclaims “She rules a palace of pleasure,” but does she? It also seems to be a comedy or spoof, but the joking of Avalon and Nader feel out of place. There’s some production value, but also more of a porny flavour of exploitation about it. Despite the fact that they actually spent some money on this one (not a lot, but some) I found the results kind of baffling. There’s an interesting weapon called a “cube amortis gun” that turns people into statues. Wilfrid Hyde-White shows up just to move things along. Apparently a role she enjoyed, while admitting these were bad movies. As it is all we get is that robe and, later, a terrific wig. How I would have loved to have heard him play it in his own voice (who knows what sort of accent President Boong would have?), and with some of the gimmicks he’d proposed (including an extra-long tongue). Here he saunters on screen wearing a silk dressing gown and manages to take over the proceedings completely despite some awful voice dubbing. The one guy who can steal every scene he’s in no matter what the role. Things were rolling along rather predictably I thought until you-know-who arrives. Tommy Carter and Nick West, if you please. Goldfoot’s prospective victims and here Avalon is teamed with fellow agent Nader. But in Bikini Machine Avalon was paired up with one of Dr. Most spies are loners: Bond, Palmer, Flint, et al. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine is that this is a buddy spy movie. In fact, I’d never heard of Sumuru before seeing this movie, though Shirley Eaton would return to play her again in The Girl from Rio (1969) and there would be another 2003 SF Sumuru film out of Germany. He wrote five Sumuru books but I haven’t read any of them. She was the creation of novelist Sax Rohmer, who wanted to have a female Fu Manchu (his better known franchise villain). The character of Sumuru actually has a history. The midriff-baring uniforms, however, attract attention the gang might not be seeking. And given Sumuru’s plot it at least makes sense that her recruits are all supermodels. Nevertheless, in 1967 it was what they had to work with. As far as gender politics go this is even more regressive than the brainwashed fembots of spy spoofs from Flint to Austin Powers. Sure they may enjoy the thought of running the world, but they’re still women and so feel the need to be dominated. Alas, her plans are undone by the weakness all women (even supervillains like herself) have for men, their near perverse need to be dominated by mojotastic hunks like George Nader. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine, and I guess it makes as much sense, or perhaps even more, than most of these plans for global domination. She’s going to send her sexy agents out to seduce and marry the world’s wealthiest and most powerful men, making her the power behind their thrones. The arch-villain Sumuru’s plot for global domination is actually quite similar to Dr. It’s 1967 and you’re probably wondering if this might be another Dr. Frankie Avalon in a spy comedy released by American International. It is also elevated like that above the bars on purpose as the higher up I could get it, the larger swath of pavement I could light up.Original coupon only. Thats why I angled it back, which only solved about 90% of the problem. If I had wanted to (and it needed it) I could have connected the two via zip ties as the light assembly was heavy so a good solid bump would move it forward some. The assembly also braced itself against the separate handlebar extension that I used to mount my second display (2wd bike so dual displays, one per motor). I did need to use the rubber spacers to fill in for the handlebars being smaller but they were included with the bar mounts. n Zoom in on the leftmost pic and you can see the two bolts just above the Jones label on the handlebars. Just barely wide enough so I could take those two mounts, jammed side by side, and slide two bolts thru, clamping the light to them both so I had a very wide base of contact both on the light and the bar. Jammed them together side by side, the mount on the light is a big wide slot. Set to eco mode which is a sharp, short flash. Thats where the blinkie goes, separated from the main beams so it doesn't get drowned out. This is a $50 total solution.Īlso, look down in the lower right corner. As such, I have one good bright beam forming the point of a spear, and two more beams widening out my field of vision - this kind of flexibility is why I no longer bother to try and solve a lighting need with just one unit. They're cheap, bright with good beam patterns and the battery is decently long lasting when set to its low value (which is plenty when used as a supplement like this). It is flanked by two $15 Blitzu Gator 390's that are also set one click outboard. Like the Niteriders it is also detachable for use as a hand light and has so much capacity it can be used as a power bank for your cell phone (a USB plug is included on it). Branded by Victagen but sold under multiple names. On a different bike that sees more use in rural areas, I do the same thing in back, but in the front I use my sort of new favorite economy beam. At US$65 it too is pricey but a hospital visit costs more. The excellent Bontrager Flare RT has an irregular blink built into it as well and I have one of those on a different bike. Note the Knog Blinder checkerboard version has a mode that is a form of an irregular blink that studies have shown are more noticeable than a regular blink. A Big Cobber set to eco mode is my blinker. Two Knog square-type Blinders are my solids. Recently I graduated up to Knog lights, which are the brightest I can find - but they cost. A center blinkie and two solids as wide apart as I can put them. All my lights are used daily and all of them have to be daybright as I use them for running/warning lights day and night.īlinkies increase the conspicuity (I was surprised: thats a real word) of a rider but studies have shown they also degrade a motorist's ability to track your motion. Instead I do cordless rechargeable lights and, once per week, when I get to the office I charge them all up in the morning on a USB hub. In addition to all the wiring you have to use and hide, you handicap yourself mightily by limiting your options to lights like that, which are nowhere near state of the art for bike lighting. I've got juice-box-sized 52v 6ah packs that are perfect for this job, where they make for gigantic capacity for a headlight, and I still have dropped the concept. I have gotten away from trying to mess with 48/52v powered lights. Bright and wide beam, but not a great headlight for busy traffic as it doesn't have a proper horizon cutoff line. I use this for the trails and rainy days when the stock light doesn't cut it. A third option if you have a USB port on your battery or bike is a simple accessory light like this to supplement the stock lights. If all of that terrifies you, just stick with the separate battery option. Either run a light that can easily take the full voltage of your output line, or better yet, add a small DC-DC converter to provide a nice consistent 12v or 24v matched to your light of choice. A fuse is also necessary insurance against a frayed wire down the road. Best bet, find an existing plug inline on an appropriate output, and buy/make a splitter to plug in that spot that splices right in the connector. Don't use blade style taps or economy twist/crimp connections in a high voltage/high amperage line or you'll just create resistance and heat. Click to expand.Certainly safer than potentially voiding your warranty, but if that's not an issue for you, tapping into a 48v line is not that big a deal if you or a trustworthy and capable friend can splice and solder a quality connection. |
